Sassa Payment Cycle Affected By Problems At The Post Office;- While the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is disbursing social grants to millions of South Africans, the agency has made an announcement that will affect payments to its recipients.
It has been reported that Sasa is having problems with social grant payments at some cash disbursement points, however, the agency has come up with a plan in the meantime.
Sassa Payment Cycle Affected By Problems At The Post Office
According to Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, this issue is beyond their control but customers can go to grocery stores like Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers etc. to withdraw their money.
In an interview, Letsatsi shared:
We have requested that all those who get grants from the post office make sure that they use whatever available infrastructure to access their money.
Letsatsi also noted that Sapo is having cash flow problems, so grants will be made available at grocery stores.
People who usually collect their payments at the post office, have also been advised to take advantage of the mentioned payment points.
Sassa customers who use their social grant cards can use access to their funds at any other bank of their choice.
Letsatsi has hinted that the payment issues may be caused by contractual issues that must be resolved and there must be implementation of the mutual agreement between the two partners.
It has been reported that about 200,000 people are most likely to be affected by this problem, however, the two parties are still meeting to come up with a plan for a permanent solution so that it does not continue into the next payment cycle.
Recently, the agency revealed that it will expand its negotiations to include fast-moving local FMCG merchants as part of its Covid-19 Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant payment outlets in answering a question about access to infrastructure grant payments.
